Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), under the framework of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established in 2015, are co-organizing the 1st International Symposium on the Modernization of Labour Statistics.
National sample surveys, especially labour force surveys, are the foundation of official labour statistics.
However, they increasingly face challenges—rising costs, lower response rates, limited data quality and detail, competing data sources, and growing user demands—that threaten their sustainability and ability to meet evolving data needs.
The 1st International Symposium on the Modernization of Labour Statistics aims to promote dialogue on the evolving role of national surveys in labour statistics.
It will highlight innovative practices that help national statistical offices meet growing demands for quality and more detailed data on the world of work. By sharing experiences and insights among practitioners, the event seeks to explore future directions and innovative solutions in survey work for improving labour statistics, as part of integrated national statistical systems.
